Jo The Receptionist episode 04

Here’s episode 4!

This drama gets more and more interesting each episode, and imho this episode is the best so far!

Niko-chan gets the spotlight this time. We get to understand her character and her struggles more, and how Jo made a difference on her.

There’s some enlightenment about Haruguchi as well, who finally opens up to Jo about her condition.

Nishi-san starts to show his true colors which I think will escalate even more in later episodes.

Translation notes

  • Maladjustment is a term used in psychology to refer the “inability to react successfully and satisfactorily to the demand of one’s environment”. The term maladjustment can refer to a wide range of social, biological and psychological conditions.
  • Kashiwamochi is a Japanese sweet of white mochi surrounding a sweet anko filling with a Kashiwa leaf wrapped around it. Unlike the cherry blossom leaf used in sakura mochi, the oak leaf used in kashiwa mochi is not eaten and used only to symbolize the prosperity of one’s descendants.
  • Waka-ayu (Sweetfish Shaped Confection) is a kind of Japanese confectionery which is made with gyuhi (a kind of rice cake made from glutinous rice or glutinous rice flour) wrapped in an oval sponge cake, shaped into a semicircle and marked with an eye and fins. It is also called Ayuyaki, Ayu or Yakiayu.
